FAQs - Virtual Personal Training

How are you training clients with COVID-19 restrictions?

I am currently training clients virtually from wherever life takes them. They are working out in spaces that range from NYC apartments to Canadian cabins. Once I get a sense of your space and equipment (if any- equipment isn’t required), I can make a customized plan for your unique needs and goals. I do offer a limited number of in-person sessions in the Upper East Side neighborhood of New York City. Those sessions either take place outdoors (weather permitting) or in a gym that is fully compliant with the current Covid-19 restrictions. Masks, social distancing, and proper hygiene are enforced at all times.

What is a virtual personal training session like?

Private personalized online training sessions are a lot like in-person sessions! You’ll work hard, get sweaty, learn plenty, and have fun! I’m still able to adjust form and give verbal cues to correct movements over Zoom or Facetime on any of your devices. For that one hour, your space will feel like a smaller, cozier version of the gym! Many of my clients even listen to music while we train.

Can I meet you before deciding?

Absolutely. I offer a complimentary virtual consultation and I look forward to learning about your goals and getting to know you.

What types of clients do you train?

I train clients who are at any point in their pregnancy journey, from the planning & conception stages to several months (and even years) postpartum. This includes clients recovering from birth or labor injuries. I also work with clients who have pelvic health issues or disorders, including endometriosis, PCOS, vaginismus, pelvic pain, chronic pain, incontinence, etc. I work with clients of any gender. If you do not see yourself represented on this list but you feel like I can help you, please contact me!

Do I have to live in New York City?

Nope! I currently have clients all over the country and some internationally!

How do I know if my space will be large enough to accommodate training at home?

Let me handle that! As part of our initial consultation, I will conduct an assessment of your training space to determine how best to program for you. No space is too small! Many of my clients live in small NYC apartments.

I don’t have any equipment at home- can I still train?

Yes. Equipment is not required!

How long is a personal training session?

60 minutes.

Can I cancel or reschedule if needed?

Outside of 24 hours, yes. Within 24 hours (unless it’s an emergency), there will be a cancellation fee.

How many sessions will I need?

That depends on the frequency of your training and what works best for your financial situation. You can purchase one session at a time or packages.

FAQs - Personal Training during Pregnancy

How soon after I give birth can I start personal training?

As soon as you are cleared by your physician or midwife! This often happens around 6 weeks postpartum, but everyone has a different story. Once you feel ready and get medical clearance, we are good to go!

Is it too late to start an exercise program in the third trimester?

Absolutely not! While people are encouraged to stay active before and during their pregnancies, I understand that there are many factors that might affect your ability to do so. I can work with you at any stage of your pregnancy, even if you’ve never exercised before.

I have a complicated pregnancy. Can I still train with you?

Yes! As long as you are cleared to exercise, I can still work with you. In fact, I will partner with your care team (this includes OBs, physicians, physical therapists, midwives, etc) to ensure that everything we are doing is productive and safe. There are certain circumstances in which exercise is contraindicated (for example, placenta previa). In this case, we may pause our sessions but I will continue to stay in touch with you and your medical team so that we can pick things back up again when it becomes appropriate.

FAQs - Personal Training with Pelvic Health Conditions

What is pelvic health personal training?

It is strength training with an emphasis on pelvic floor function and overall pelvic health. For some people, this means strengthening and preparing the pelvic floor for pregnancy and childbirth. For others, it means a training program that emphasizes strength and relaxation as a means to alleviate symptoms of pelvic pain. I also work with clients who need help with any number of pelvic health related issues, including incontinence, pain with sex, low back and pelvic pain, GI issues, and more. I do not solely focus on the pelvic floor, though! All of my clients also engage in full body strength training, mobility work, and skill based exercises.

I’ve been told that my pelvic floor is too tight and that I shouldn’t strengthen it. Can you still help me?

Absolutely! Having a hypertonic (overly tight) pelvic floor is quite common. In this case, we work primarily on pelvic floor relaxation. This method is helpful for pregnant people as well as those living with conditions such as endometriosis.

I’m a guy – would pelvic health personal training help me?

Yes! Everyone has a pelvic floor, no matter their gender. The misconception is that only pregnant people need to think about their pelvic floor. In reality, everyone can benefit! Proper pelvic floor training can alleviate issues such as erectile dysfunction, urinary or fecal incontinence, constipation, pelvic pain, and more.
